HISTORICAL IMPORTANT STEREO CARDS
ALL these cards have been SOLD
These are 17 stereocards of the PALAIS DES TUILERIES, a royal and imperial palace in Paris which stood on the right bank of the River Seine. It was the usual Parisian residence of most French monarchs, from Henry IV to Napoleon III, until it was destroyed in the upheaval of the Paris Commune in 1871. Built in 1564, it was gradually extended until it closed off the western end of the Louvre courtyard and displayed an immense façade of 266 metres.
Since the destruction of the Palais des Tuileries, the Louvre courtyard has remained open and the site is now the location of the eastern end of the Jardin des Tuileries, forming an elevated terrace between the Place du Carrousel and the gardens proper.
Because the Palace was totally destroyed in 1871, these stereophotographs can be dated with certainty before that date.
There are also 18 other stereocards of PARIS before 1870, and 1 card of Versailles + 1 card of Bordeaux.
